Dewey On The Shelves

This WebQuest is relatively simple considering it is for high school students.  As a second year high school librarian, I have been thrilled simply to see more kids pull books of fiction off the shelves.  However, the Common Core standards are causing a shift in the way English Departments select materials.  Literary nonfiction is not pulled off the shelves very often.  Students like to search by Coupon Companion Plugin" href="#" in_rurl="http://i.trkjmp.com/click?v=VVM6MjcxMzM6MTg6dGhlIGludGVybmV0OjE5YmUyN2E1NmI3MTUwZDg5OGE1ZmVlOGE5NjdkZDY4OnotMTM5Ni0xNDgwNDY6enVuYWwuY29tOjE4NzA1OjhkNWE3NTg3ZmM1N2I2NjFjMDEwM2E5OTgzNmY5OTVl">the internet for information.  If they were taught the Dewey Decimal System at some point, they seem to have forgotten it.  The goal of this WebQuest is to reteach Dewey's categories.

Credits

I learned about Zunal.com through course work in WV Learns Online. This is my first attempt at creating a WebQuest.

I learned about Glogster and Wordle through training I had in becoming a Technology Integration Specialist.

While the bulk of this lesson can be completed within a 60-90 minute session in the computer lab, products and presentations will need to be shown at a different time. That way the students presenting themselves as Melvil Dewey will have time to obtain items/costumes to help add to the entertainment value of their presentation.
