Wollongong, a Great Place to Visit!
Task
1. Wollongong is a great city with lots to offer residents and visitors alike. Whether
you’ve been here for a few weeks, months or years you’ve probably experienced some
of the highlights of Wollongong: the pristine beaches, the stunning natural landscape
that surrounds it, or one of the countless outdoor activities you can enjoy. Whatever
it is, what is it that you love about Wollongong? The first part of your task is to create
a short video saying what you love about Wollongong and upload it to YouTube and
support the ‘I Love the Gong’ campaign!
2.Each member of your group will research and write a travel guide and suggested
2-day itinerary (minimum 600 words) promoting Wollongong (and its surrounds) to
one of the five types of travellers using information and images from Internet
web sites. You must include activities, accommodation and dining options.
Think about the needs of your consumers and reflect these needs in your guides.
Remember to use descriptive and persuasive language techniques, simple present tense
(take a walk, eat at, book a, etcetera), second person (you) and modality, remember
the itinerary is suggested (you should consider, you might like to,______would be fun)
and include pictures and images that would appeal to your type of traveller.
3. Then, present your travel guide to the rest of your group for feedback before you
write your final draft. Be prepared to justify why your suggestions would appeal to
your type of traveller. It is important for you to understand all the types of travellers
and to contribute to the group presentation/feedback session.
4. When you have finished writing your final draft come together as a group to create
a questionnaire for potential visitors to find out what type of traveller they are so they
can be directed to the suggested itinerary designed for them.
5. Finally, upload your final draft and questionnaire to the wiki 'Wollongong, a
Great Place to Visit' for Tourism NSW to review for their website.
Before you begin read the examples of short travel guides with itineraries in the
Resources section of this page. Then read 'Some Characteristics of the Travel Genre'
and see if you can identify these characteristics in the examples provided.
In your group, choose one of the examples to print out and together
highlight as many of the characteristics as you can.
This task will take a week to complete. You will find everything you need
to complete this task in the Resources section of the Process page.Good luck!
