Process

By the end of each day, you should have completed all of the bulleted tasks for the day. If you have not completed the checkpoint task in bold by the end of the day, you need to complete as soon as possible!

DAY ONE:

- Using the class hat, you will choose a European Explorer to study.
- When you have chosen your explorer, you need to open the document titled "Websites for Explorers" at the bottom of this page.
- Once you have opened the page of resources, research your explorer to find out what country gave your explorer the money for his voyage to America. After finding out what country the explorer came from, print out the "World Map page" at the bottom of the page and draw the voyage from that country to America. Make sure to circle the home country as well as write your explorer's name and your name on your sheet. How long do you think the voyage from home to the "New World" took your explorer?
Checkpoint: You should know what explorer you are studying and have completed the World Map page. If you have completed all of the information on your map, turn the sheet into the history bin at my desk. Make sure to get credit for your work by putting your name on your paper!

DAY TWO:

- First, you need to print out the worksheet at the bottom of this page titled, "What I Know"
- Once you have printed out the activity, fill in the information you already know- the name of your explorer and what country sponsored the voyage.
- After completing this step, continue learning about your explorer by researching using the websites from the document you used yesterday. While you are researching, you should be filling out your "What I Know" worksheet so that you have information to share during your project/presentation.
Checkpoint: By the end of today you should have filled in all of the areas with at least one to two facts about your explorer and have turned it in so I can check your progress on your explorer.

DAY THREE:

-Pick up your "What I Know" sheet and continue to fill in the last few facts/key points on your explorer from yesterday so that you have enough information for your presentation. You have 10 minutes to finish up!
- If you have completed your research or you finish before the 10 minutes is up, you should reread what you have learned about your explorer and star or highlight the key points that you think you want to include in your presentation.
-After the 10 minutes is completed I will go over the visual portion of your presentation and provide you with examples to give you a few ideas.
- After I have gone over the presentation and the requirements, you will have the rest of the time to work on your presentations. You may want to start by brainstorming ideas, but don't waste too much time because you will need to create your visual piece!
Checkpoint: You should have your "What I Know?" worksheet completed and have almost completed your visual piece for your presentation.

DAY FOUR:

- You have 10 minutes to complete the final touches to your visual piece before we present them! Make sure you print out the document titled, "My Recording Sheet," before the time is up!
- Student names will be selected out the hat at random to present their presentation
- Make sure to speak up during your presentation so that the class can hear! If you are not presenting, you should be listening closely to hear the facts. Be respectful of your classmates!
Checkpoint: By the end today, you should have completed your "What I Know" worksheet, presented your visual piece, and turned all of your work related to your explorer web activity. You should also have a completed recording sheet, "My Recording Sheet" and have handed it in.
