Objective:  Task 1
The student will synthesize information stated in the text with prior knowledge and experience to draw a conclusion.  MLAF2b4 (Grade 4)

This task involves looking for clues in the text that will give you an understanding of how Sarah feels as she gets to know the Whittens and they get to know her.  It is important to base your thinking with evidence from the story when you infer what character traits Sarah, Caleb, Papa, and Anna exhibit.

Objective:  Task 2
The student will demonstrate the ability to use social studies tools to recognize space relevant to a student's environment by using social studies tools (e.g., cardinal directions, map legends, etc.).  Mississippi Social Studies Framework 3f (Grade 4)

This task involves correctly reading parts of a map to help Sarah on her journey from Maine to Kansas.

Objective:  Task 3
The student will draw, label, and interpret bar graphs, line graphs, and stem-and-leaf plots.  Mississippi Mathematics Framework 5a (Grade 4)

This task will be to collect, organize, and graph data about one of Sarah's favorite organisms found on the prairie.

Objective:  Task 4
The student will analyze the characteristics, structures, life cycles, and environments of organisms.  Mississippi Science Framework 3c (Grade 4)

This task involves finding relationships between various organisms located on the prairie.
