South Carolina: The Palmetto State

Task

untitled(151).bmp

In groups, students will be researching and conducting a presentation about the state symbols of South Carolina. Groups will present their work to the rest of the class, and as a whole, the class will form one big project and present it to the school district. This will allow students to learn more about "The Palmetto State." They will find out interesting facts about the state.

Students should keep in mind that each state symbol is unique in it's own way. Students also need to keep in mind what the name of the state symbol is, how it realtes to South Carolina, and how it originated.

One good idea is for students to assign specific roles to each group member. For example, one group member can concentrate on how the symbol was originated, another group member can concentrate on how it realtes to South Carolina, and the last group member can concentrate on the name of the symbol, what does the symbol mean?

GOOD LUCK!
