Stage 3 and 4 Early Colonisation of Australia in 1788: The impact it had on Aboriginal and English Settlers before and after the arrival of the First FLeet

STAGE 3

Students will be focusing on outcomes CCS3.1 from the HSIE k-6 Syllabus which focuses on the early colonisation of australia. The students first will read the websites provided on the links on the task page which have been established to provide information on the colonisation Australia. Students will also read through the powerpoint created and learn about convicts and what they did in 1788.

Lesson 1

* 20 minutes- Students look through websites collecting information and notes about colonisation.

* 15 minutes - Students will then complete a cloze passage of Colonisation.

* 20 minutes-  Students will then do a renactment of the arrival of the First Fleet.

*5 minutes - summary of lesson- what did students know, what did they learn, what do they want to learn.

Lesson 2

* 10 minutes- Students look back through the range of resources they have been provided, as well as the notes they have created.

*10 minutes - Students visit first fleet and sydney cove websites and record interesting facts and important details.

* 30 minutes - Students will then complete worksheet on sydney cove.

* 10 minutes- summary of lesson - How did the first fleet arrive? Where did they arrive?

Lesson 3

* 10 minutes - Students look through the websites on colonisation discussing with a partner what the websites main focus is about.

* 10 Minutes- Students are read a diary entry from an English Explorer from 1788

* 30 minutes -Students create a Diary entry from the perspective of an English Explorer in 1788, focusing on their thoughts, what they can see and who they come into contact with. students are instructed to use descriptive language as much as possible.

* 10 minutes - Students get a chance to read aloud their diary entries and get positive feedback.

Lesson 4

* 20 minutes - Students research their own website on colonisation and provide the websites they have found in a document.

* 30 minutes - Students will then create another diary entry focusing on the arrival of the First Fleet from the viewpoint of an Aboriginal Elder and what their thoughts were at the time and what they saw and who they met.

* 10 minutes - Students will then read aloud their diary entries and where they got some of the new information from.

STAGE 4

Lesson 1 Introduction Topic 3 : Colonisationand Australian History

-Brainstorm prior knowledge with class discussion

-mind-map on the board student responses

-use class text book to read, as a class, introductory topics

-introduce web-quest and go through each component


Lesson 2

a)Look at and research European perspective

b)Construct 5 dot points of notes pertaining to the Europeanperspective of colonisation in Australia

c)Locateand select 2 images that represent the European perspective

Lesson 3

a)Look at and research Aboriginal perspective of colonisationin Australia

b)Construct 5 dot points of notes pertaining to the Aboriginalperspective of colonisation in Australia

c)Locate and select 2 images that represent the Aboriginalperspective

Lesson 4-Conclusion

a) Watch �babakiueria�

b)Class to form 2 groups- European/Aboriginal. As a groupdiscuss and record motivation behind why you behave/ think a certain way

c)Compile European and Aboriginal 5 dot points and images withgroup task notes, print and hand in to teacher.
