Introduction

Look at this sad, pitiful bird.
What do you think happened to him?  How do you think you could help him?

Unfortunately, there are many birds and other animals that are struggling to survive like this little fellow.  This bird is a sad victim of an awful oil spill that happened off the coast of Louisiana recently.  You probably saw and heard about the spill on T.V.  If there was an oil spill off the coast of our own beautiful state of Georgia, how would this affect our animals and habitats near our coast?

Georgia's Beautiful Coast

Georgia's coast is full of clean beaches with lots of wildlife birds, marine mammals and tropical fish.  Our 110-mile coast is home to wild horses, old mansions, landscapes shifting with the tides, sun-beaten fishermen, quiet islands, beautiful beaches and twisting trees heavy with moss.  If oil companies ever decided to search for oil off our coast, it could harm our coastal tourism.  Offshore oil drilling could destroy our historical islands of Tybee, Jekyll, St. Simons and Sea Islands.

For this adventure, you are a news reporter who is covering the devastating effects that an oil spill could have for our native animals and our habitats of Georgia.  So come on in and learn how oil can spoil.
