Performance Standards:

S3L1:  Students will investigate the habitats of different organisms and the dependence of organisms on their habitat.
a.  Differentiate between habitats of Georgia (mountains, marsh/swamp, coast, Piedmont, Atlantic Ocean) and the organisms that live there.
b.  Identify features of green plants that allow them to live and thrive in different regions of Georgia.
c.  Identify features of animals that allow them to live and thrive in different regions of Georgia.
d.  Explain what will happen to an organism if the habitat is changed.

S3L2:  Students will recognize the effects of pollution and humans on the environment.
a.  Explain the effects of pollution (such as littering) on the habitats of plants and animals.
b.  Identify ways to protect the environment:  conservation of resources and recycling of materials.

Standards for the 21st Century Learners:

Standard 1:  Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge.
1.1.1  Follow an inquiry-based process in seeking knowledge in curricular subjects, and make the real-world connection for using this process in own life.

Standard 2:  Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new situations, and create new knowledge.
2.1.1  Continue an inquiry-based research process by applying critical-thinking skills to information and knowledge in order to construct new understandings, draw conclusions and create new knowledge.
2.2.4  Demonstrate personal productivity by completing products to express learning.
2.3.1  Connect understanding to the real world.
