Introduction

As a member of the Job Corp’s Academy, you have been selected by President Obama to serve on the U. S. Workforce 2020 Committee.  This is an economist committee. They prepare surveys to collect data and figure out what the data mean.  They also forecast how the economy might change in the future. Economists study topics such as prices, jobs, taxes, interest rates, and the stock market.  Other economists study money and the banking system. Writing reports on their research is a very important part of their job (BLS – Economist). It is 2010 and the economic and employment markets are changing rapidly; jobs are being eliminated and new ones created.  The President along with the Committee is concerned that people currently entering careers will not find the success they had hoped for in 2020. The underlying question is: how to prepare people today for workforce 2020.

You have been commissioned to research and investigate how the job market will change in the next 2 to 10 years and the impact it with have on your current career choice and employment opportunities in the year 2020. You are to present your findings and suggestions to President Obama, the Committee, your teacher, and a representative from the Job Corps as well as people from the public; via an Internet teleconference, at the next public committee meeting (4 weeks from now). You are to develop a PowerPoint presentation and a 5-page research report that includes graphical analysis of your team’s findings.
