Lesson Plan for a Culturally Diverse School

Although this lesson plan is simple and short, for a  50 minutes culturally diverse class that seeks to integrate the six principles of a culturally diverse class outline by Chrisholm (1998).  First, the warm-up which allows students to start the class by performing tasks of their choice is in line with instructional flexibility, one of the pillars of Christholm.  During the warm-up, even students who are new to computers can have their own time and play with the keyboard without feeling ashamed.  This is a vital part of teaching a culturally diverse class.

Allowing students to choose their own topic for research can also help in a culturally diverse class.  For instance if students are given a topic that they are not familiar with, they may not be able to cover that topic comfortably.  But allowing them to choose a topic, and choose whether to write or type their findings also helps the students to be innovative and comfortable.  That is also part of the ways to teach diverse classes.

Finally, by allowing students to interact with each other and give their presentation in class, instructional integration, another principle Chrisholm outlines is met.
