This WebQuest is meant for adult English language learners in an advanced level reading and writing course in English for Academic Purposes. The intention is to help train students in critical literacy while they are studying English in order to prepare them for undergraduate or graduate school.

The project aims to meet the following goals:

  • Identify
author tone, purpose and bias in texts
  • Analyze
vocabulary encountered in academic, professional, and recreational
    reading
  • Comprehend
expository prose on familiar subjects and literary texts
  • Interpret
the value of facts and make appropriate inferences
  • Paraphrase
an in-depth news article in a one-two page report

The WebQuest should be taught in conjunction with in-class activities and discussions that teach and support critical literacy. The WebQuest is meant to be taught over the course of at least three weeks, with each "Part" taking one week.
