This web quest has been designed to accompany a unit on creative writing and analysing and comparing short stories. It is not a self contain unit, but rather belongs in place with a wider, extensive unit. This only focuses on techniques and as such only lays the ground work for students learning. It has been designed to be an introduction into a unit of work, however, may be undertaken at any stage of the unit.

Its length should be about a week’s worth of learning. However, may be extended according to the depth and the time frame students need to complete the final story.

This unit is designed so that students may get out of it, the amount of effort they place into it and is adaptable over a range of years, so that student from years 8-10 are able to complete it, however the depth into topics will vary of the year levels.. Teachers must be wary that students may be able to complete this with inadequate research into topics; as such I have made it mandatory that students check their work with the teacher. This is to allow for the teacher to be confident the students are doing the necessary work for their grade level.

This unit has been designed under the sacsa curriculum. It focuses on two key outcomes 4.11 and 4.12:

4.11
Controls, adjusts and compares a variety of strategies for locating and recording information and for reading, viewing and critically interpreting written and visual texts for specific purposes. [T] [C] [KC1] [KC2]

4.12
Uses, compares and adjusts multiple strategies for planning, composing and reviewing written texts. [T] [C] [KC3]

However it is adaptable to other curriculum documents.
