Introduction

This webquest is designed in the form of a planning process of a school trip to London. Students gather information about London- tourist attractions, weather, food & drink, shopping, transportation. As a result they will become familiar with the city/ country whose language they have been learning. Students will improve their internet skills which is very important in today’s English language classes in which we are trying to implement the use technology more fully. Students will also work in groups to write reports, prepare and make presentations; and this will help improve their ability in working collaboratively. Writing reports will improve their writing skills. Making presentations will improve their ability in expressing themselves orally in an interesting way and speaking in public.

The specific outcomes this webquest focuses on are:

Following the instructions given by the teacher.

Reading through and comprehending the resources to find the necessary information.

Answer questions accurately using the resources.

Using the language accurately- including grammar, spelling and use of vocabulary.

Using the language in a way that takes people’s attention and makes them interested.

Searching the internet resources and being able to find the required information there.

Writing a report in an organised way.

Making a presentation which is informative and appealing.

Working collaboratively and sharing responsibilities equally.

Process

The first step to introduce the webquest is to explain the aim of it- planning a school trip, writing a report and making a presentation about it.

Teachers should explain that s/he and also some other people will be writing to students to explain what they are expected to do.

Teachers should tell that it’s important to follow the the instructions and that the students will complete the task following the instructions step by step. Also, during the process teachers should make sure that students understand what to do in each step.

Teachers should explain that this will be a collaborative group work and every member of the group will have some responsibility.

Then, teachers should arrange the groups- how many groups there will be, how many students will be in each group. It is a good idea to put a slow learner and fast learner, a visual student and hands on student together.

Teachers should explain what s/he expects the reports and presentation to include. It’s a good idea to direct students to the evaluation rubric so that students won’t miss any important points.

Learners

This webquest is designed for grade 9 students who are at the age of 14 or 15.

Students work in groups so that each type of student will find a role/ duty for themselves. With the help of this students will learn and practice working collaboratively. They will improve their internet skills, writing and presentation skills.
