This webquest has been designed for ENGL !!!, ENGL 095, ENGL 083 AND ENGL 063 at Ivy Tech Community Colleges Central Indiana, to reflect material taught as part of the Critical Thinking curriculum.  The Purpose of the Unit and the specific Learning Objectives that are addressed are the following:  

Purpose:  Students will identify and analyze various media resources for bias and other logical fallacies. 

095 Objectives Addressed:

-Apply the research process and write at least one essay that includes selection, evaluation, integration, and appropriate documentation of sources in MLA and/or APA styles. 

-Create compositions that reflect writing process strategies. Read and respond to professional and academic writing.

-Construct grammatically correct, accurately punctuated sentences that convey the writer’s intended meaning. 

-Interpret visual rhetoric such as graphs, tables, charts, and other images.
-Increase comprehension of texts through vocabulary building, summarizing, outlining, mapping, and note taking, which may include adapting individual learning styles.
-Use critical reading and writing skills.
-Identify and use patterns of organization in reading and writing.
-Recognize and differentiate between stated and implied main ideas and supporting details.
-Read with increased flexibility and effectiveness in order to understand diverse materials, including college-level texts.

ENGL 083 Objectives Addressed: 
  Distinguish fact from opinion.
 Draw appropriate inferences from what is read.
  Identify author's purpose and tone and distinguish between literal and figurative language with emphasis on recognizing connotation.
Use critical reading skills to recognize bias and evaluate text.

ENGL 063 Objectives Addressed:
 Establish a systematic approaches to improve reading, vocabulary, and comprehension
Develop critical reading and thinking skills
Develop strategies for making independent critical evaluations of student and published texts,
    -which demonstrates proficiency in reading
    -evaluating,   
    -analyzing, and
    -using material collected from various types of sources.
Develop an understanding of the role of audience and the rhetorical situation
