Our task is to read the book trouble don't last and learn about the Underground Railroad and slavery.

In the Process section of this webquest there will be various activities to complete while exploring different things about this part of United States history.

Before you start reading the book or explore any further on this webquest, please write your own answers to the following questions. Do not look up the answers or ask anyone for help. Give your own answers to the following five questions. Write your answers in complete sentences. Please save your answers for a later activity.

Five Questions

1. Who were the slaves and how did they become slaves?

2. What was the Underground Railroad?

3. How did the Fugitive slave Act change the Underground Railroad?

4. If you were a slave in northern Kentucky, what two major bodies of water would you have to cross to be truly free?  Into what country would you have to cross?

5. Name three real people associated with the Underground Railroad.  What was their role in helping the slaves?

 

 

Below are some YouTube videos which will introduce you to some of the songs slave might have heard and sung during this era. Many of the songs remain popular today. Listen to a few and see if you recognize any of them.
