trouble dont last and The Underground Railroad
Introduction
There were many people, primarily
African Americans, who lived under the deplorable slavery system in the United
States. Many people were born and died in slavery. All slaves dreamed of
freedom.
The Underground Railroad was a
series of escape routes for slaves seeking freedom from about 1800 to1860. It
was NOT a railroad and it was NOT underground.
The Underground Railroad was also a
network of people who worked secretly to help slaves escape to freedom in the
northern United States and Canada.
The runaway slaves faced many
hardships and risked getting caught by "patrollers" who were always
looking for them to return them to their owners.
There is not much information
available about The Underground Railroad because very little was written down.
