Information Literacy and You

Task

Information literacy is vital on an individual level and to society as a whole.

The Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association, lists five major components of information literacy.

1.   The ability to identify when information is needed.
2.   The ability to locate information.
3.   The ability to evaluate information.
4.   The ability to use information effectively.
5.   To have learned how to learn and to understand how human knowledge is organized.

Read the full report here.

You will read and learn about these abilities and write about or present your previous experiences. Finally, you will evaluate and assess your own knowledge and skills at present. Your goal is to get a clear understanding of what it means to be information literate and to identify areas within your own abilities needing improvement.
