Information Literacy and You

Process

Information Literacy competencies:

  1. 1.   The ability to identify when information is needed.
  2. 2.   The ability to locate information.
  3. 3.   The ability to evaluate information.
  4. 4.   The ability to use information effectively.
  5. 5.   To have learned how to learn and to understand how human knowledge is organized.

For each item on this list you will be given a short lesson or presentation and do further research. A discussion will follow where any questions will be addressed. After reaching a full understanding you will then consider and recall a moment when you were especially impacted by a lack of or use of this skill or knowledge.  You will then write a brief account or give a presentation about this experience. You should include details of how the skill or information helped or would have helped. After these five short tasks, you will discuss your own abilities in an introspective paper about your own information literacy.
