Task

In today's world, we are able to communicate news as events unfold moment to moment. Through online, print, and visual media, we can experience history as it occurs. With so many types of media (television broadcasts, radio, Internet, online blogs, pod casts, newspapers, magazines, books, and movies or films) there are a plethora of messages to take in, process and evaluate.

In a group of students or own your own, your task will be to review and analyse the events of the War in Iraq as it was portrayed in the media.  There may be different viewpoints of this event and you will need to compare and contrast them.  If you do choose to work on your own, I expect that you will get input via other students' webquest wikipages.

The objectives of the Webquest are to guide you to:

   Compare media images of the same event and point out the similarities and differences between them.
   Learn how different presentations of media may present various points of view.
   Analyze how choices made by the media in what they present, portray or film, influence the way the event is portrayed.  This includes how elements of the event are selected or omitted to suit the intentions of the creator.
   Understand how these perspectives shape the way history is remembered and recorded
   Assess how particular cultural groups were affected by these media sources and in what way has it shaped or changed the historical accuracy of the event for these groups;

The Process page will provide you with instructions and activities for you or your group to do in order to complete the Webquest.

Before you begin, watch the video "
Censored Images of War, The War in Iraq, Part 1".  This provides an understanding of how the western world (i.e. Australia and America etc) viewed the war.  Please note that some images may disturb viewers.
