It's All About the Benjamins

Task

You will begin this project by first estimating various expenses adults face in the real world every month.

Once you estimate, you will learn important facts that will help you decide what type of job is for you. You might ask, "but why do I have to go to college?"  You will discover the answer to that question with your research on average earnings.

Using this information you will learn about gross and net pay because what you earn, is NOT the amount of money you actually take home!!  You will research an occupation that interests you and you think you may want to do when you get older.  You will find out how much somebody fresh out of college earns with that job and compare it to minimum wage in the United States and your state.

Once you know how much you will earn, you will calculate your monthly expenses by finding an apartment, determining costs for utilities (tv, internet, cell phone, etc.), and making a grocery list.  You will also compare vehicle costs, select a vehicle to drive, and list all the expenses associated with it.  After you have completed a final budget sheet listing all your future monthly expenses, you will decide if you can afford your budget based upon the occupation you chose.  Finally, you will write a reflection about your experience in this budgeting process.
