Why Would Susan B. Anthony be Arrested?

*Students will Read Website #1 - A Quaker Upbringing; Website #2 - Biography of Susan B. Anthony; and the first page from Website #3.   Students will create a list of good/upstanding citizen characteristics, and compare their list to the character of Susan B. Anthony.  Students will use a Venn Diagram.  *Next, students will read about the Trial of Susan B. Anthony from Website #1 - the first two pages and Website #3 regarding the trial.  Students will collect evidence as to why Susan B. Anthony was arrested.  Students will look at the resource:  http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.rbc/rbnawsa.n2152
Students will use Persuasive Writing style, and their evidence, and write a short summary of why they believe Susan B. Anthony was arrested.  *Students will address the following:  her childhood, her school years, her teaching career, and her activism.  Did Susan B. Anthony have a childhood full of trouble?  Was her upbringing part of a criminal background?  *Have students read Website #2 - Abolitionist, Educational Reformer, Labor Activist, Temperance Worker, Suffragist, and Women's Rights Campaigner.  Students will prepare their "verdict."  They will list evidence that shows what type of person Susan B. Anthony really was.  Students will make their judgment as to why Susan B. Anthony was arrested.
