Before beginning your paper and presentation about the history of basketball, skills and drills, and proper shooting technique, examine your own knowledge regarding this topic using the following steps:

Step 1: Complete a K-W-L chart with your group entitled “Basketball 101”

Step 2: Complete the K and W columns with your group.  Develop thought-provoking questions for the W Column in the KWL chart.

Step 3: Browse through the following websites. Be prepared to be BLOWN AWAY with the knowledge and information on Basketball from the webpages listed at the bottom of this page.

Step 4: Complete the L column of your group's chart after viewing the websites.

Step 5: Within your group assign parts of the presentation, these parts are: Principle Research Assistant (how basketball was created and what changes happened from December 1891 to 1930), Skills Assistant (fundamentals of basketball’s skill development from 1930-1970), Head Coach (current drills for making a great shooting athlete from 1970-Present Day), All-Star Athlete (drills, skills, and techniques for basketball from 1891 to Present Day).

Now finish your research based on your role and work towards completing the remaining steps:

Step 6: Each group member will now focus on their role. Keep notes, ideas and questions in a journal as you begin designing your research.

Step 7: Once you have all researched and written ideas for your expert role, Share the information with your group.

Step 8: Give and receive constructive feedback and ideas.

Step 9: Decide on the order of the presentation and paper. Then decide what will be included in the PowerPoint and paper.

Step 10: Each group member should create their portion of the presentation and paper based on their role.

Step 11: Combine all the information to create a complete paper that includes an introduction with a main idea, at least 3 topics discussed with supporting facts and information in the body, and a conclusion that restates your main idea.

Step 12: Make final copy of your paper.

Step 13: Based on your paper, combine all information in an organized PowerPoint presentation with your group.
