Manners at the White House

Teacher Page

This WebQuest will be used to familiarize ninth graders with multiple forms of meal service and manners. While some students want to question why are manners important, most will agree that they would want to do the right thing if invited someplace special like the White House.  The job of Chief of Protocol brings the need for learning etiquette to focus.

My students will make a PowerPoint using photographs to illustrate what they are doing.  You could make a "silent" movie with Windows Movie Maker (video then "cards" held up telling what is going on.)  Use iMovie if you have macs.

Tennessee state standard - 6.3  Arranges table settings for simple meals.  Demonstrates table manners and etiquette appropriate for various occasions.  9.0 Students will analyze career opportunities and examine employability skills and traits in family and consumer science.

The picture is of "Iron chefs" at the White House.
