The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

Focus:
This WebQuest tries to transform grade 8-9 students� reading experience of a classical novel into an enjoyable ride by giving them opportunities to show their comprehension in a variety of creative ways instead of merely being tested.

 

Objectives/Goals:
I would recommend acquainting students with the tasks before they read the novel. That way, they would read with a purpose. This WebQuest, however, is subject to different circumstances. Students will:

• Collaborate to create an artistic personal response to a literary work


• Recognize the basic elements of a plot


• Interpret events


• Infer characters� traits, and analyze their motivations, thoughts, and emotions in a literary work


• Identify or infer themes


• Identify and analyze conflicts


• Relate to personal experience


• Discuss ideas and express agreement or disagreement

Evaluation

The rubric is divided into the following categories: Individual Work (30%) - Content (30%) - Presentation (20%) - Group Work (20%)

It is preferable that the score for group work is the result of each member's contribution to the team work.
