The Life and Legacy of Abraham Lincoln

Teacher Page

Purpose:

As a Horace Mann, Abraham Lincoln Fellow, I wanted my students to understand who Abraham Lincoln was and the principals that he stood for.  Abraham Lincoln's legacy is as important today as it was in the 1860's.  The things that Lincoln should be remembered for are:

  • Upholding the constitutional belief that "all men are created equal."
  • Believing that there should be "One" Nation and fighting for it.
  • Freeing the slaves through the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Exemplifying the fact that anyone can become anything they put their mind to and work toward.

Targeted Learners:

I am using this WebQuest with students in grades two through five in Enrichment classes that meet once per week.  This is the first time the second graders have made a PowerPoint presentation, but with help, they are having fun.

Standards:

This Webquest satisfies Indiana State Standards in history, technology, reading, and writing.  It also satisfies one of our school goals for this year of learning about Abraham Lincoln during this bicentennial year.
