Focus:

This WebQuest focuses on the Indiana's Academic Standard for fourth grade history, 4.1.2. The objective is to explore the cultures, societies, and individuals  of the Delaware/Lenape, Miami, Potawatomi, and Shawnee tribes of Indiana's past. It uses the concept of designing exhibits for a new Native American museum as an interesting way for students to learn about the various similarities and differences of these tribes.

Objective/Goals:

This is a project that can take up to four weeks to complete. It is ideal to allow one week for the development of each exhibit, though the first two exhibits can be completed in one week if needed. Its introduction is most productive when preceded by the academic history standard 4.1.1, thus giving the students the advantage of prior knowledge to build upon.

Students will learn about the environments, clothing, foods, stories, art, and other details that made these tribes an important part of Indiana's history. They will learn collaborative planning, organization, and communication skills. They will build upon writing skills and the use of various resources for verifiable information. They will continue to develop the use of computer skills, such as typing, editing, saving, recovering a file, and printing.

Resources:

Prerequisite Skills: Basic experience using the computer and the Internet.

Time Required: 1 week for the first two exhibits, then 1 week per the remaing exhibits (45 min. each day) and cullmination of the presentation portion(one day). Length of time needed can be adjusted as the needs of the students change. Technology/Materials Needed. Group work will elliminate the need for each student to have a computer, but each group will need at least one to be made accessable to them for the use of the WebQuest "Native Americans of Indiana."
