Lesson Focus: Students use technology to address world issues that require the application of science knowledge.
Application of Essential Question:
 How does exploration and advancement in technology utilization impact local, state, national, and global environments and communities?”

Essential Question:

What is the relationship between Global Warming and automobile fuel emission, and what effect will the use of hybrid or electrical cars have on the environment?

Students have 12 keys questions to answer for the WebQuest

Context:
Write balanced chemical equations; Identify types of reactions; Write names and formulas of compounds; Formulas of green gases used in chemical equations; and Define related terms: reaction, equation, compound, combustion, law of conservation of matter; coefficient, gas, precipitate, and liquid.
Desired Understandings:
Students will understand: the research process; how to record information gathered; how to make interpretations and predictions; and the importance of clearly articulating verbally and in writing.
Key Knowledge and Skills:
Students will know: relevant terms; types of chemical equations; identity of green house gases;

Students will be able to: work in groups of four students to determine the relationship between Global Warming and automobile fuel. They will use this information to persuade the EPA that buying or not buying hybrid cars will produce a positive effect on the environment. Search the Web for information and interpret information in order to make an interpretations and predictions.

These Assessments will assist in evaluating student performance. They will give evidence that students understand.

TIME REQUIRED:

This task will take 4 single lessons over a period of 2 weeks. Students will be expected to do most of their work at the library or where there is internet access.

LESSON 1: The first lesson will be used for explanation and planning. Group assignments and roles will be determined at this time.

LESSON 2: Students will start working on their Key Brackground Questions and research. In addition, they will work collaboratively to decide their viewpoint.

LESSON 3: Students will compile their results and prepare their audio/visual presentations.

LESSON 4: Students will present their audio/visual presentations and submit their Newspaper articles.
