This Web Quest is designed for students in Grade 3/4.


In this Web Quest students will learn of ways that they can be better users of water in their homes. They will learn the importance of saving water and the role they can play in being sustainable citizens.

It is a Resource that can be used within a unit on Water Conservation.
Once students understand what Water Conservation is, teachers can use this Web Quest to allow students to deepen their understanding of how to save water in their home.

This Resource is created to develop childrens conceptual understanding of the importance of Water Conservation using a variety of modes to engage students including : Reading, Audio, Visual, Interactive and Creative. It is designed in a simple way that would allow students in Grade 3 or 4 to navigate through it independently, and develop their ICT skills as they learn to work through the activites.

Once they have completed the Web Quest, students are asked to design a poster to display around their school that gives members of the school community tips and ideas to save water at school and at home.This Web Quest and extension activity of creating a poster is designed to be completed in 1-2 lessons.

 At Level 3, students read and respond to an increasing range of imaginative and informative texts with some unfamiliar ideas and information, vocabulary and textual features. They interpret the main ideas and purpose of texts.


They listen attentively to spoken texts, including factual texts, and identify the topic, retell information accurately, ask clarifying questions, volunteer information and justify opinions.


 








At Level 3, students create and present works in a range of arts forms that communicate experiences, ideas, concepts,observations and feelings.


 






At Level 3 students describe natural physical and biological conditions, and human influences in the environment, which affect the survival of living things.

They locate information on an intranet, and use a recommended search engine and limited key words to locate information from websites. They develop and apply simple criteria to evaluate the value of the located information.




At Level 3, students collect information from a range of sources to answer their own and others’ questions. They question the validity of sources when appropriate. They apply thinking strategies to organise information and concepts in a variety of contexts, including problem solving activities.
