The Great State Search-Colorado

You will be given the next six weeks to complete research on Colorado and complete a brochure.

You will become a researcher who discovers all that he/she can about Colorado.  By the end of this unit your goal is to be an expert on Colorado.  The categories that you will research include history, geography, economics and civics.

Timeline for this unit will be as follows:

·       Week 1:  You will complete research on basic facts of Colorado.  Some examples of basic facts include state bird, state flower, state flag, population, etc. The basic facts of Colorado can include anything that you are interested in.  This research can be used in your brochure that you will create. 

·       Week 2: You will complete research on Colorado history.  You must collect dates of important events that have occurred in Colorado and important events that have occurred in the United States and the world. You then must construct a timeline of events that shows the relationship between Colorado events, United States events and world events.

·       Week 3: You will complete research on Colorado geography.  During this time you will answer questions about Colorado regions using maps and other geographic tools.  From this information you will create a map of important Colorado locations.  This map must include at least three bodies of water, two mountains, five major cities and two main tourist attractions.

·       Week 4:  You will complete research on Colorado economics.  In order to complete this task you must first learn what goods and services are.  You will then give examples of at least 3 goods and 3 services produced in Colorado during different periods of time and their connection to economic incentives. 

·       Week 5:  You will complete research on Colorado civics.  You must explain the origin, structure, and function of the three branches of state government and the relationships among them.  Also you must indentify and explain a variety of roles of leaders, citizens and others play in state government.

·       Week 6:  You will create your brochure which must include a title, some graphics and some Colorado information.
