1984 WebQuest

                                                                              Create Your Own Dystopian Society!

In order to complete you task, the four members of your group will need to choose a role:

1. Minister of Government: Investigate and outline in complete detail the political system set into place during 1984. Who ran it? What were its flaws? You will be responsible for coming up with your society�s motto and should outline what problems your society faces/how you will maintain order.

2. Minister of Economy: Investigate and outline in complete detail the economic system set into place during 1984. Describe the class structure and what Big Brother did to generate income for Oceania. What will your society do to generate money? What are some jobs that will be available? What is the monetary system?

3. Minister of Literature: Investigate and outline in complete detail the literature that was allowed and denied during 1984. As you know Big Brother controlled all aspects of media in 1984. Will you follow his lead? What will be censored? Is anything censored? Make sure that you are in constant contact with the Minster of Government so that your policies will align.

4. Minister of Social Activity: Investigate and outline in complete detail social system set into place during 1984. Why did Big Brother work so hard to separate the classes? What will people do for fun in your society? How will they spend their free time?

EVERY GROUP MEMBER MUST:
-Discuss what role technology will play in your new society!
-The pamphlet you create is your propaganda to be handed out in order to convince people that your new rule will be more successful than Big Brother's. Make it convincing!

Remember:

-You must work together to create your "party" literature. This includes a pamphlet complete with pictures as well as a visual poster that you will present orally to the class.

Pamphlet:
* The pamphlet must be typed with 1.5 spacing. Make sure the layout is clean and organized with each member contributing at least 2 pages.

* You can use Microsoft word, PowerPoint, or any other word processor in order to complete the pamphlet

*You must stick to the guidelines of a dystopian society, displaying your knowledge of 1984 as well as your own creative ideas

*You are trying to get people to subscribe to your new "dystopian society" so make sure that your pamphlet is visually appealing, informative, and above all talks about the downside of Big Brother

Poster:
*Should highlight the main ideas from your pamphlet

*Should include pictures

*Every member of the group must present their role

*Presentation should take no longer than 10 minutes

*Music or other props (to be approved by the teacher) will be considered extra credit
