Task

You will need the following materials for your group project: the book (obviously) - Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare; A partner (some may have groups of three); Internet access (school library, writing lab, or at home). The first part of the assignment is to read the story Hamlet, Prince of Denmark (from beginning to end - no skipping scenes). Using the internet, teacher suggested websites (such as the teacher's WebQuest page with videos included) and other research materials, your team will research and form its own interpretation of Hamlet's "To be, or not to be" monologue. As you are reading, take notes and write questions you can ask your partner or another member of your team - this will help your group to generate ideas and create its own interpretation of another one of the scenes (for example, Hamlet's behavior during, "The Mousetrap"). Once you have selected a scene, in addition to Hamlet's monologue, and your group has agreed upon its meaning, re-create each scene as you envision it. Put a modern twist on it! What would Hamlet have said if it were the 21st century? Make it personal and get ready to present it to the class! Make it good because we will also vidoetape it so other sections of the course can review it!
