1. Before you can head out on the open road, you need to choose your vehicle.  (Resource 1)

2. Next, you will need to print out the Travel Log. (Resource 2)

3. Print out a blank map of the United States using Resource 3.  Put a dot (or mini car sticker) in the place that you are beginning.  Make sure to put a dot (or mini car sticker) at each stop and label them 1, 2, 3 etc.  Your map should reflect all the places you traveled.

4. Pick your first destination (city and state).  Go to Resource 4 to find how many miles you will have to travel to your first destination. In order to do this go to "Get Directions" and type in your starting city and state and then type in your first destination.  Google Maps will generate an approximate milage.  Make sure you be writing this information on your Travel Log.

5. Use Resource 5- Netstate to find the state that you have traveled to.  Click on it and scroll down to find the record high temperatures and record low temperatures.  Make sure to write down the temperature AND the date when that temperature occurred.

6. Resource 6- Global Computing will give you information about when the state was "admitted" or joined the United States.  Write down the entire date.

7. Continue steps 4-8 until you have traveled to 10 different states.

8.  Once that is complete, you will use the information from your Travel Log to create a double bar graph.  Resource 7 will take you to a webpage to create your own graph.  Make sure to print it out when you are finished.

9. Create a timeline using the data of when the different states joined the United States.  Experiment with Resource 8 to figure out what will work BEST- make sure to print it out.

10. Use the document "Paying at the Pump" to help you calculate your total milage, your gas milage and how much money you spent on gas.

11. Create a powerpoint presentation.  Look at the Evaluation Tab to help with what the criteria and what is expected.

12.  There are a few extra resource websites as well as extension activities.  If you finish early, please feel free to find out some interesting facts or complete some extension activities.
