  1. First, you will develop an opinion about who should have the majority of political power in a society. Try to think of examples and counter-examples about why each estate should have the majority of political power in a society and rationally come to a conclusion about which group deserves--and would do best--running a national government.
  2. Second, you will research each of three potential systems of governance. Rule by the masses or the people is called a democracy, rule by the clergy or religion is called a theocracy, and rule by the elite is called an aristocracy.
  3. Third, students will refine their positions as necessary.
  4. Fourth, students will use this template to structure their five-paragraph essay. Make sure the format is followed closely and you give well thought out reasons for your estate have the majority of political power.
  5. Fifth, you will write your essay based on the template that you have completed.
  6. Sixth, revise your essay. It would be best to walk away from your essay, do another activity, and come back to it after some time has passed. This will allow your mind to clear and can give you invaluable new insight into changes that you may wish to make to your position paper.
  7. Seventh, write the final draft of the position paper.
