Process

vol_lava(1).jpg

1.  You have a long flight to Hawaii, so what a great time to do some research. View The History of Mt. Kilauea and remember to take note on    important facts such as:

--Location

--Historical Erruptions

--Hazards

--When did this volcano start continuously erupting?

--Volcano alert level

2. Now that you have arrived in Hawaii and done some research your are ready to visit The Lab. Here you will see many tools used by geologists to study the activity of the volcano.

3. The next step is to gather Information and make Predictions from geologists who have studied the volcano to help predict lava flows, and prevent disaster.

--For this section you will need to find a geographic map that shows the topography of Mt Kilauea.

--Print this map and color in with a red pencil the areas that have lava flows.

--With a black marker circle the towns that may be in danger of these nearby lava flows.

4. Once you know the history of Mt. Kilauea and have completed the map, you will be able to share your predictions with the other Jr. geologists. Together you will come up with one theory on what towns are in danger and how long they have.
