Gemination: All about seeds

Step 1
Observe a seed then draw it. 
Materials: seeds
Describe the seed, colour, shape, texture, height...example: round, spotty, black, thin, rough etc.

Step 2
To grow the seed in different conditions.
Materials: beans, tissue, 3 plastic cups, water
Experiment:
Place some tissue in each plastic cup and label them A, B and C.
Sprinkle some water on the tissue in cups A and C.
Place a bean into each cup on the tissue.
Place Cup A in a dark place (cupboard).
Place Cups B & C in a sunny place.
Keep in mind that you have to observe the growth of the seeds over a seven (7)day period.

Step 3
Show how easy or difficult it is to split a seed.
Material: Seeds
Experiment:
1.  Stand on a chair and drop the seed on the floor; did it split?
2. Throw it against a wall; did it split?
3. Stamp on it with your shoes; did it split?
4. Squeeze it between your fingers; did it split?
5. What do you think must be done for a seed to split?


Step 4 
Examine the internal structure of the seed.
Materials: seeds, water
Experiment
Place some seeds in the water for about two (2) days; did it split?
Look at the inside carefully then draw it.
