Process

  • Today, we will be traveling Missouri in groups of 3.
You will need to include some history of Missouri. You will also need to include in your brochure the Governor, the Attorney General, the Secretary of State, and information on the General Assembly of Missouri.  Each person should also find an interesting fact to be included to make your brochure fun to read! These facts should be chosen to highlight what you like about Missouri.  Include an explanation about why you chose each fun fact underneath the fact.  A one page essay will accompany the brochure, done by yourself.

***First, assign group members for the first exploration. You will need a person to explore first, a note-taker, and a timer.
The first explorer will visit websites to find the first 2 pieces of required information. This can be whatever two pieces you choose. The note-taker will record any useful information the explorer finds and the timer will time this first exploration at 7 minutes.
***Second, switch roles however you would like and let another person explore, note-take and time the mission (remember, 7 minutes!) This explorer will find the next 2 pieces of required information.
***Third, each person now will take a turn finding information on the history of Missouri.  Select an explorer, a note taker, and a timer again and take turns finding a fact about Missouri history that is important or interesting to you. (timer will give each explorer 6 minutes to do this, then rotate like before).  Each person needs a fact.
**Now you should have your required information. Now switch roles again. Each person should take a turn finding a fact about Missouri that they want to use in the brochure.  Each person should get 3 minutes to find a fun fact they would like to use.  Make sure this fact reflects your interests! (This can be anything from sports, to food...etc.)

**When you have decided on your interesting facts, gather more information on each fact so that you can include detailed information in your brochure.  Each fact should include specific information...don't leave your readers hanging! To do this, decide on an explorer, note-taker and timer again.  The explorer will find more information on their fact as the timer gives them 4 minutes to do this.  Switch roles again and give the next explorer 4 minutes to find information on his or her interesting fact.  Finally, switch again and the explorer this time finds more information on their fact.  The timer should give this explorer 4 minutes.
***Finally, create your brochure.  You can arrange the information in any way on your brochure. Remember to include all the information you have found and include pictures!
***Also, each person will need to write a one page essay that details why they picked the historical fact they picked and how they feel it affected Missouri in the past and how it affects Missouri now, if at all.  (Make sure you write down your fact about Missouri history as this paper will be homework to be turned in the next day. )

  • It is necessary to include all fun facts and a brief description of who chose it and why.
  • You may make 2 brochures if you would like if you run out of space.  This is completely up to you and will depend on the size of your pictures and writing or font size.

To make the brochure, use your notes from the note-takers and pictures from the web. Take a sheet of construction paper and fold it into thirds and include all the necessary information!
You may either hand write the information or type the information, print and paste it to the brochure.  You can either draw the pictures, or print them off the computer to put on the brochure.  How you design your brochure is up to you! Make sure it is legible and includes all the information required!
