Get together with your group to do the following activities. As you complete each step, go to the evaluation page and check the rubric (you may want to print it out) to make sure you have included all the requirements.

Step 1:

  • Print out a copy of the Story Map Outline.
Found at the bottom of this page.

Step 2:

  • Read three of the following fairy tales.

Beauty and the Beast

Cinderella

The Frog Prince

Hansel and Gretel

Jack and the Beanstalk

The Pied Piper of Hamelin

The Princess and the Pea

Puss in Boots

Rapunzel

Sleeping Beauty

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

  • As you read these stories, follow directions on the Story Map Outline to complete the worksheet.

Step 3:

  • Choose (as a group) one story to re-write
  • Outline the main plot points of the stories.
  • Discuss how you are going to incorporate these plot points in today's society.
  • Later you will be putting on a play, so you will now need to write a script for your new fairy tale.

Step 4:

  • Using the Script you wrote in Step 3, come up with a design for a set, and costumes for your characters.
  • A set is the place that your play takes place. This is the background for your play.  Please draw a neat design for your set.  Make it colorful and original.  Please draw as many set as your play requires.
  • A costume is the clothes that your characters wear.  Please draw a neat design for your costumes.  Don't forget to include shoes, jewelry, and hair.  Make them colorful and original.  Please draw at least one costume for each of your group's member's characters.

Step 5:

  • After your script is done, and your designs are turned in, you will put on your play for your fellow students.
  • Make sure you practice, this includes learning your lines and knowing what actions your characters needs to do when.
