Now is your chance to show off your Master Builder skills! Your project is to construct a typical Medieval castle that showcases all you have learned during your research.

Here are your guidelines:

  • All of your construction must fit on the piece of wood that your teachers provided for you. We will complete all construction IN CLASS.
  • You may also choose to include an outside village, manor house, farms, stables, jousting area, kennel, etc.
  • Your castle must have AT LEAST 10 of the following features clearly and neatly labeles and defined:  moat, drawbridge, Great Hall, keep, bailey, gatehouse, walls, towers, portcullis, parapets, barbican, arrow loops (also called loop holes), murder holes, machicolations, postern, and watergate.
  • Make sure your definition includes the purposes of the feature.

What to use: You should use inexpensive, recycled materials found at home or gathered from relatives and friends, such as:

  • cardboard, carboard boxes, paper towel and toilet paper rolls
  • recycled poster board
  • cereal and tissue boxes
  • paper, construction paper
  • styrofoam packing pieces
  • aluminum foil
  • light weight wood
  • paint
  • paper mache
  • cloth remains
  • grasses, weeds, vegetation, sticks, stones, etc.
  • small models of people and animals - try to make these - no purchased action figures please!
