According to Teaching Students with Learning Problems, by Cecil and Ann Mercer (2005), map components of a narrative story include

  • setting (characters, time, and place)
  • problem
  • goal
  • action
  • outcome

(1) Find a short story to read. After you finish the story, explore some of the links that provide ideas for map construction (2), (3), and (4). Then construct your map based on what you read (5). Finally, conclude with a short summary and include it with your map (6).
