U.S.A. and G.B. - two English language variations

Process

The tasks are self explanatory as the instructions are quite easy to follow. Remember that the Internet replaces the generally used ESL textbooks. You are to use it for comparing ideas and sharing URLs among peers. The Internet with its characteristics of being so updated, versatile, and flexible helps maintain the motivational factor for its users to continue participating willfully. In that manner you will not only be working on the fluency of your English but will also be able:

·         To concentrate on grammatical units at individual pace and to correct peers politely;

·         To cover language points such as agreeing and disagreeing;

·         To practice social skills; namely, learning to reach a compromise in discussions is many a time an art which either demands a lot of work on an individual basis or needs refreshing;

·         To become more familiar with online and offline tools;

·         To find grammar and language usage on the Internet.

Simply, take it a step at a time and you will manage to complete the tasks successfully.

Good luck!

The evaluation criteria to be followed throughout the tasks can be seen in the chart bellow. The calculations will follow the procedure where points will be given for each task and in the end they will show a final score. The maximum score is 200 points. As each group has four members, each individual will be evaluated by the other three group members, by him or herself, and by the facilitator. This adds up to five evaluations and each one has a maximum of 40 points. Once the points from the collected evaluation sheets are added, they are to be divided by two in order for the equivalent grade to be seen. The calculator from accessories is required even though everyone can do the division in their heads. The idea is to implement earlier learned skills to reflect on a continuum of learning skills that rather soon become very natural and are required in the real life situations. The evaluation is to be completed right after each task ends in order not to mix up the points for the various tasks in question. These scores are to be either emailed to each member or posted in the chat session. This allows objectivity rather than subjectivity to domain and results in highest levels of performance on individual basis.
