From SEED to PLANT

Pre-Reading Activity:  Print the Mission Log or get a copy from your leader (a.k.a. teacher).  Look through the book From Seed to Plant.  Take note of the vivid illustrations and detailed diagrams.  Complete missions 1 and 2 and record your data in the Mission Log.

During Reading Activity:  Print the Science Clips Life Cycles Diagram and complete while you read the book From Seed To Plant.

Post Reading Activity: Complete missions 3-10 and record data in the Mission Log.     

Mission 1:  Go to resource #1, Life Cycle Pre-Test, and take the online quiz as a pretest.  Record your score on the Mission Log.  It is okay if you do not do well on mission 1. 

Mission 2: Go to resource #2, Plant Builder, and discover that not all plant parts look the same by designing your own plant.  Then sketch an example of the plant that you created on your Mission Log.

Mission 3: Go to resource #3, Water Me, and journey along with a drop of water as it travels through a plant.  Use what you learn to fill in the missing information on your Mission Log.

Mission 4:  Go to resource #4, Garden Pizza Place, and discover what it takes to grow the perfect plants for a large pizza.  Use what you learn to answer questions on the Mission Log.

Mission 5:  Go to resource #5, Parts of a Flower, and investigate the inside of a flower as you take it apart piece by piece. Be sure to record the information on your Mission Log.

Mission 6:  Go to resource #6, Seed Dispersal, to discover how seeds move from place to place.  Be sure to record the information on your Mission Log.

Mission 7:  Go to resource #7 Plant Reproduction, to practice parts of the plant and pollination in the interactive activity.  Be sure to record the information on your Mission Log.

Mission 8:  Go to resource #8, What Plants Need to Grow, and  experiment with the right amounts of water, heat and sunlight while observing plant growth. Record your quiz score on your Mission Log.

Mission 9:  Go to resource #9, Under Cover Agent: Plant Life Cycle,  earn an Agent Award by identifying parts of a flower and ways seeds are dispersed.  This website is so cool that you will want to complete it 2 times so that each team member can print an Agent Award with their name on it.  Staple the Agent Awards to the Mission Log.

Mission 10:  Go to resource #10, Life Cycle Post-Test, and take an online quiz that will be used to assess your knowledge of the topic.  Record your score on you Mission Log, then compare your score to the score from mission 1.
