Process

Task 1

The class has been divided into 5 groups of 4. The class will democratically decide which country they will be given to represent.

  • India: this provides quick facts on India as a country.
  • Zimbabwe: this provides a country profile.
  • Zimbabwe 2: a more in-depth look into Zimbabwe from an economic point of view.
  • Haiti: provides statistics on nutrition, health, education and economy on the country Haiti.
  • Philippines: provides a profile on the Phillipines including political and media aspects.
  • Afghanistan: provides a history, environmental aspects, economy and information about the people of Afghanistan.  

 

Once each group has a designated country, they will be asked to answer the following questions:

  • What is your country?
  • Where is it located?
  • Students will be required to provide a map of their country.
  • What is the population size?

Provide some facts and figures you find interesting on the health of the country.

 

Task 2 Explore the health issues within your chosen country.

This link will be useful in detailing various global health issues, some of which may be relevant to your country.

 Investigate the health issues associated with your country. Use this link to brainstorm your findings. Then construct a report, summary, collection of materials, list etc, to communicate these health facts.

This link will give you some templates to help structure your response.

These links may help you to find relevant health issues within your country:

  • India's health issues: this provides some epidemiology on India's health crisis as well as addressing asnitation with 'the toilet crisis.'
  • Zimbabwe health issues: this provides statistics on Zimbabwe in regards to Nutrition, health, HIV/AIDS, education, demographic indicators, the rate of progress, child pretection and so on.
  • Haiti health issues: this website includes teh long term health concerns of Haiti after the earth quake and how you can help their situation.
  • Phillipino health issues: provides health issues on the Phillipines including health issues, health news, health tips, health remedies and so on.
  • Afghanistan health issues:  this site links to social problems, way of life, environmental issues etc.

 

 

Task 3 Presenting your findings to the committee board to be approved.

Process 1

Get into country groups. When you have done this cooperate with your group to determine who will represent each of the perspectives:

  • Mother
  • Teacher
  • Doctor
  • Government official

Once you have been allocated your role. Use this link to help you select a template that will help you navigate your thoughts about the health concerns relevant to your role.

 

Process 2

 Schedule a meeting with the representatives from your country. As a group determine how you would like to communicate your findings to the committee board for funding of proposal to be approved.

Your group may like to communicate your finding through the following avenues:

Portfolio, surveys, models, research papers, articles, proposals, brochures, videotapes, collages, presentations: drama, music, dance, simulations, role play, interviewing, short story/ scripts, proposals

Here is an example of a successful proposal made by the Mtongwe people in Kenya. They used the funding to develop a waste management solution after being funded by the Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD). 

This is another example as to how members of India community used the sanitation issues and turned it into a business!!

 

 Process 3:

The board will come together in week three and assess each countries proposal. Download and print resource 1 (below) as a guide for critiquing each presenting country.

Citizen within the group may consider wearing a dress code appropriate to their country. This may help to convince the members of the committee to approve your proposal.
