6. State two other interesting pieces of information that you found about S.E. Hinton.

TASK 2:  Setting

The Outsiders takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma; in fact, Oklahoma is the state in which all of S.E. Hinton's novels are set. Use an iPad (or other device) to answer the following questions and gather some interesting facts about the state.

1. Draw a picture of the state of Oklahoma - just the outline is fine!

2. Identify the capital in Oklahoma

3. Write 3-5 important facts about the state of Okalahoma.

4. Are there any famous people who were born in Oklahoma?

5. Now that you know a little bit about Oklahoma, how do you think it influences the events in the novel? How might the story have been different if it took place here in Irvine, CA in 2014?

TASK 3:  Life in the 1960s
Now, you have the opportunity to examine some unique elements of the 1960s.  Use an iPad (or other device) to learn about this time period and discover more about life from 50 years ago.  As you explore, think about how these things might have affected Ponyboy, Johnny, Dally, and the other members of the Greasers.

1.

List 5 bands that were popular during the early to mid 1960s.

2.  List 5 popular T.V. shows from the 1960s.

3.  Draw a picture of a madras shirt - these were quite popular!

4. Draw a picture of a guy with a pompadour - try your best!

5. Write the names of two presidents in the 1960s - any caricaturists???

6. List 3-5 major national/world events from the 1960s.

TASK 4: Slang

Please click the “1960s Slangs” PDF below - it will take you to a list of words that were "cool" back in the 1960s.  Pick five words/phrases that you think are"boss" and write the word and the definition on your poster.  Once you have completed this quest...you’re done!
