Introduction

Meet your new neighbors!

Our friends are building a new zoo in Richmond, but first they want to make sure that they can help the animals feel right at home. Every animal lives in a certain habitat that has special qualities to make it unique. In order for these animals to feel at home, the zoo builders must make sure that each animal's cage at the zoo has the same qualities as the animal's home in the wild. Just like you would want to feel comfortable and safe at your own home, it is extremely necessary that the creators of the zoo create habitats that look and feel exactly like their natural habitats in the wild. Zoologists, or the people who study the characteristics of an animal and its environment, will be researching how to make these animals comfortable. The animals at this zoo will come from one of five land environments, also known as biomes. These biomes are the desert, grasslands, the rainforest, the tundra, or the forest.

Your task will be to help these zoologists figure out what types of natural environments, or biomes, exist and what kinds of animals need to live in which types of habitats.
