Overfishing and the Seafood Dilemma

Conclusion

After doing this webquest, eating seafood may never be the same for you.  We all need to do our part to support viable aquaculture, commercial fishermen, dining establishments, and grocery stores that promote conservation and work together to sustain our appetites for seafood.  The ocean is huge and so are the issues that face growing demand for seafood and conservation efforts.  Being an informed consumer and educating others about health risks associated with some seafood are worthwhile endeavors.  Thinking about where our food comes from helps us to appreciate the efforts of those who brought it to us.  While it is easy to point the finger at commercial fishermen, they too want to make a decent living for themselves and their families. Especially in countries outside the United States, the fishing trade is all many of the coastal residents know and can rely upon as a means of supporting their families. After all, fishing is one of the earliest activities of humankind.  Fishing has a long and cultural history so enjoy your seafood and fishing adventures. If we can all do our part to conserve, then we work together for a cause that is worth our time and efforts.
