How much does it cost to have a Baby?

Teacher Page

Focus:  The focus of this WebQuest is to show students the finacial cost of having a child as a teenager just up to the first year of life.  This is a project that I use at the end of discussing Prenatal Development, Male and Female Reproductive Systems, and Abstinence.

Objectives/Goals:  The hopeful outcome is that students will see in real time or figures that the decisions that they make regarding sex are harder than they believe.

TEKS Objectives

1D: Describe the life cycle of human beings including, birth, dying, and death

2D: Describe physiological and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy

3A: Explain the role of preventive health measures, immunizations, and treatment in disease prevention

5D: Identify information related to Abstinence

5E: Analyze the importance of abstinence from sexual activity as the prefereed choice of behavior in relationship to all sexual activity for unmarried persons of school age

Resources:  Students need to have basic knowledge and understanding of how to navigate the Internent, as well as be able to use an Excel Spreadsheet.  Pair the students up in couples (boy/girl), or some may choose to be single parents.  A computer lab works well with bigger classes.

Credits:  The resources and websites are outside links and I would like to thank them for having such good web pages that were easy to navigate and use.  Also, the What to Expect book series was used and was a good resource for the students.
