Me and My Shadow

This lesson was developed as part of Missouri's eMints Project (enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies).  Students will need to know basic computer skills in PowerPoint and typing, measurement skills and basic math skills of making and interpreting a bar graph. 


This lesson is to be used to give third graders a better understanding of how shadows are formed and how the sun causes them to change throughout the day.


Performance Standards:
Goal 1: Students will conduct research to answer questions and evaluate information and ideas.
Goal 8: Students will organize data, information and ideas into useful forms for analysis or presentationl.


Knowledge Standards:
Science Strand:6
Students will acquire knowledge of the composition and structure of the universe and the motions of objects within it.


GLEs: Students will describe the changes in length and position (direction) of shadows from morning to midday to afternoon.


Students will describe how the Sun's position in the sky changes the length and position of shadows.


NETS-S: 3.d
Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students process data and report results.
