WebQuest

Kate Chopin and

Teacher Page

This webquest was prepared for an English Composition and Literature class at Burlington County College as an introduction to using the web to facilitate deeper understanding of the works being examined.  However, it can be used in the secondary classroom as well and for any class using literature to explore women's issues and the women's rights movement.  Students will be expected to write a literary analysis essay with MLA style documentation and in-text parenthetical citations using multiple sources to support their own contentions.

A companion piece to be studied is "The Chrysanthemums" by John Steinbeck, as the protagonist in that story also has unexpressed desires to experience more out of life, a desire she represses as her mother before her did.
