This WebQuest is about Ntozake Shange. The objective of this webquest is for students to learn more about the author, the production/performance aspect of for colored girls... and some of the criticisms of her work. This webquest is also designed to support students as they work towards their final project which requires them to do a performance of for colored girls...or a performance of a text that has been modeled after for colored girls...

Objectives of sing a black girl's song

  1. Students will synthesize information from multiple sources
  2. Students will compare criticisms of the work of Shange to inform their own criticisms
  3. Students will identify the stylistic differences inherent in Shange's writing and the purpose of these differences 

Resources:

Prerequisite: Students have read or are in the process of reading for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf by Ntozake Shange

Time Required: Two lessons over a span of two weeks. During the first lesson students will learn about the webquest and how to conduct it and what the final project is. Students a have a week to complete the webquest and a week to complete one of the three projects. The final project will be presented at the end of the two weeks during the second lesson.
