The target learners for this webquest are students in grades 3-5. Children will explore websites to help them understand the life cycle of a plant, the parts of a plant, and how the environment effects plant growth and survival.

This webquest covers the following North Carolina objectives:

Science

Goal 1: The learner will conduct investigations and build an understanding of plant and growth adaptations.
1.1  Observe and measure how the quantities and qualities of nutrients, light and water in the environment affect plant growth.

1.2  Observe and describe how environmental conditions determine how well plants survive and grow in a particular environment.
1.3  Investigate and describe how plants pass through distinct stages in their life cycle including: growth, survival, and reproduction.

Computer/Technology Skills

Goal 2: The learner will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the use of computer and   other technologies.

     • Discuss and select appropriate technology tools to collect, analyze, and display data.

Goal 3: The learner will use a variety of technologies to access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply, and communicate information.

     • Identify, discuss, and use multimedia to present ideas/concepts/information in a variety of ways as a class.

This website is titled “The Great Plant Escape.” Students will read about the different parts of a plant and their jobs. It also has a button that takes you through a Spanish version for English Language Learners to explore.

This is a power point presentation of plant reproduction.  It discusses the parts of the plant, pollination and seeds.  It would be a good introduction to plant power points that the students can work on for a culminating activity.
